Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

Our elderly family members are one of our greatest treasures.  Sometimes, a loved one may be abused by a nursing home, hospital or care facility; however, this may be difficult to detect due to lack of communication.  You may notice that your parent or loved cannot express the specific problems that he or she may be experiencing because of his or her decline.
Listed below are some of the warning signs that should alert you that your loved one may be abused or neglected by the hospital, care facility and its employees.

- Dangerous bed sores, otherwise known as decubitus ulcers, or breaks in the skin
- Malnutrition and/or dehydration
- Sudden and seemingly-unexplained weight loss of the resident
- An unsanitary or dirty facility smelling of urine and/or feces
- Unkempt appearance of the resident
- Family or resident complaints ignored by staff

- Sudden death of the resident
- A fall that may go unreported or not reported in a timely manner to the family
